A favorite CWA fishing destination. Merkle Wildlife Refuge has five ponds open to the public. They contain largemouth bass, bluegill, and other species. Fish from the edge of the ponds. All skill levels encouraged.

You will need a Maryland Fresh Water Fishing License that can be purchased on line at https://compass.dnr.maryland.gov

What To Bring

A 5- or 6- weight rod and reel recommended. Fishing equipment available to borrow. Poppers, streamers, caddis flies, hoppers, and beetles will work. Bring lunch, drinks, shoes that can get wet, change of clothes, sunscreen, bug spray, hat, and sunglasses.  Bring a folding chair if you have one.

Our fishing day is dedicated to the memory of Mary Kilbourne, a long time CWA member and devoted naturalist at nearby Jug Bay Wildlife Center.

For insurance purposes, all non-members must register as a CWA member-for-a-day at this event- fee is $10.
