Annual CWA Memorial Day Week-End Party
Saturday, 28 May to Monday, 30 May 2022

Join us on the Gunpowder River on either Saturday, 28 May, or Sunday, 29 May, from 8:30am to 5:30pm for some fishing and fun.

Carol Stevenson is hosting this party at her house on the Gunpowder River in Monkton, Maryland. Visitors are welcome from 8:30am to 5:30pm on Saturday and Sunday. Monday from 9:00am to 5:00pm will be an informal fishing day for those who want to stop by. Impromptu fly tying sessions will also occur throughout the week-end. We’ll have mini-fly fishing clinics starting at 9am Saturday and Sunday to help beginners learn how to cast. Catch some beautiful trout behind Carol’s house or at the various access points in the Gunpowder Falls State Park. Memorial Day is a very popular time on the Gunpowder so an early start on the river is advised.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their own food. Carol will provide picnic tables, bottled drinks, and individually wrapped snacks. Extra chairs are always needed.

Please bring your own fly fishing gear if you have it. A wading staff is recommended. Recommended equipment: 5wt or 6wt rod, 8.5 or 9 foot; 1 or 2 leader packets (9.0 feet, 4X or 5X). Flies that have worked nicely in the past include tan caddis (size 14-16), sulphur flies (size 16), blue winged olives (size 18), Adams flies (sizes 14-18), bead head nymphs and caddis pupa, small black ants, beetles, Golden retrievers, and wooly buggers. If you need to borrow fly fishing rods or reels, boots, vests or waders, please let Carol know after you register on the CWA web site.

You will need a Maryland Fresh Water Fishing License that can be purchased on line at https://compass.dnr.maryland.gov
