Brenda Foster and Chris Bracken-Piper, two of our CWA members from Pennsylvania, hosted a week-end destination fly fishing trip to Spring Creek and Penns Creek, two world-class trout streams.
The group began a rigorous day of fishing at Fisherman’s Paradise on Spring Creek on Saturday morning. From there, they set off to the water and perfect fishing weather, a bit of drizzle early on then sunny conditions. The water was low and clear so our fishers could see trout to cast to, but not many rises that would indicate the fish were feeding. Nevertheless, they were able to catch some nice fish before moving on to the Coburn section of Penns Creek in the afternoon.
There, the water was also low but more fish were rising, especially in the later afternoon, providing some interesting, and perhaps frustrating fishing. The day ended with a fairly good fish count and a general consensus that this is a trip that CWA should repeat next year. Before returning to their accommodations very tired but happy, the group gathered at a Tavern near Coburn to share stories and strategize about fishing next year, with the possibility of adding some more fishing venues near the Reedsville area.
CWA offered one noteworthy option to the trip this year. Katherine Farley arranged with Spring Creek Trout Camp for some of the group to rent RVs during the trip. We appreciate the kindness of the owner, Mark Lauer, in giving a discount to our members who chose to stay overnight. Kudos to our participants, Val Walters, Kathy Herring, Denise Swensen, Katherine and Frank Farley for giving those rascally trout a work out. Many, many thanks to Brenda and Chris for making this wonderful trip possible!
